Re: Free Hit Game Week 18
Does anyone else get the feeling that their Free Hit GW 18 team, created out of necessity due to most clubs having a blank week, seems to look quite a bit better than their main existing team?
Basically getting rid of Salah and Robertson has allowed me a stronger all round team full of players form City, Utd, Spurs and Arsenal and even a playing bench.

Yes it's making me want to wildcard instead.johnF wrote: ↑11 Jan 2021, 18:00 Does anyone else get the feeling that their Free Hit GW 18 team, created out of necessity due to most clubs having a blank week, seems to look quite a bit better than their main existing team?

I'm finding something similar but different, after building for the bench boost it's noticeable how much better your 11 can be when you don't have to worry about the bench.johnF wrote: ↑11 Jan 2021, 18:00 Does anyone else get the feeling that their Free Hit GW 18 team, created out of necessity due to most clubs having a blank week, seems to look quite a bit better than their main existing team?

I think teams with lots big hitters in midfield (was that referred to as an Anne widdicombe?) often look better than more balanced teams.

Re: Free Hit Game Week 18
I'm going for a mostly (hopefully) playing bench (except possibly the goalie). With a scratch bench, it would just take one game to have a late postponement for you to end up with 8 players.
Currently
Darlow (Sanchez)
Cancelo/Tierney/Dier/Shaw (sub 2 Fernandez)
KdB(c)/Fernandes/Son/Gundogan (sub 1 Smith-Rowe)
Kane(vc)/Lacazette (sub 3 Brewster)
Might bench Shaw in favour of Smith-Rowe.

Re: Free Hit Game Week 18
What about this team
Lloris
Tierney, Cancelo, Dias (Fernandes, Mitchell)
Bruno, Kdb(C), Son, Neto (Smith Rowe)
Lacazette, Kane (VC), Wilson
Tactic:
3 city, going for the safest who played almost everything. Expecting Cancelo to play in midfield Home against Brighton.
Llloris: Safest nailed keeper (Who knows, United can play Henderson, Newcastle can play Dubravka, Pope same price but faces united)
Arsenal: Tierney and Laca enought? Is it a big chanche with 3 starters from Arsenal and 2 attackera? Palace is Palace. Smith Rowe as sub.
Wilson: Worth a gamble against weakest team in PL? On penalties aswell
Neto: its either him or Saka, but as above is it better to spread risks on Wolves vs Everton aswell?
Or should I go with Wan-Bissaka for utd defence cover instead of neto.
Fernandes: nailed player for Newcastle, on first bench?

Gundogan is interesting. Probably doing something Else my self now with som changes.
Darlow (Sanchez)
Cancelo, Tierney, Dier (Wan-Bissaka, Fernandes)
KdB, Bruno, Son, Gundogan (SmithRowe)
Kane, Lacazette, Wilson
So Wan Bissaka instead of Shaw (more nailed)
Wilson instead of Brewster (more potential)
Otherwise the same

Re: Free Hit Game Week 18
A bit stuck with this. Currently sat on this but subject to change:
Darlow
Cancelo, Stones, Dier
KDB, Fernandes, Son, Rashford, Saka
Kane, Lacazette
Subs: 4.0GK, Holding, Mitchell, Brewster
Don't fancy Leno as feel Arsenal offer so much better value elsewhere with Holding clearly the best of the 4.5 defenders, Smith-Rowe the best enabler and Saka and Lacazette with big points potential.
One alternative is to take Wilson instead of Lacazette and then go with the best defender in every position with a stronger bench. Probably more sensible tbh but I really want to squeeze in Laca..
Another alternative is to essentially take Wilson and Smith-Rowe over Saka & Brewster but I can't quite afford the defence I would like. It would have to be something like Dier, Holding, Stones which is not terrible tbh.
Rashford could drop out but not sure I see anyone to drop in. A city midfielder possibly but I really don't want to play Pro Roulette in a week like this. With a decent team value I would rather just have him in as he will be a popular pick and could do some damage rank wise.

Re: Free Hit Game Week 18
Serious team value that! Basically identical squad to mine but you've got a spare 2m to afford Laca over Wilson. It's somewhat reassuring though, as while I'd certainly prefer Laca, in a single gameweek it's probably a coin toss as to who scores better.Sammy the Crab wrote: ↑11 Jan 2021, 22:14 Darlow

I was looking at alternate drafts earlier and also noticed that it's a shame there's so few premium defenders available really. Everyone will have Cancelo + one more City. Spurs full backs not nailed. United have Maguire/Shaw and Arsenal have Tierney but that's it. And unlike on a wildcard, you don't really get as much for investing in your bench in a once off gameweek (further covid surprises notwithstanding, but even then that's damage limitation more than anything). It's a pity there's no Robertson, TAA, Chilwell, Digne type to punt on.

I see that Stones is in a lot of teams ahead of Dias and Cancelo. Just checking that is in praise of Stones not because of any doubts about Dias/Cancelo playing?

Re: Free Hit Game Week 18
Hi, looking for some expertise around free hit rules and transfers. If I have two FT's can I use them now and then make additional transfers after and play a free hit, so the two transfers I confirm first will still be there next gw once my free hit team reverts back? Thanks in advance!

Re: Free Hit Game Week 18
Thanks, I think I get it but not 100% clear. So say I make two transfers now and confirm them without playing a free hit, if I then go to make additional transfers after, the option to free hit will not be available to me. Is that right? Sorry to ask just want to make sure I'm understanding that right (or wrong...)

Re: Free Hit Game Week 18
The answer is no. If you already made 2 transfers you can still play the FH, no problem, but the transfers already made will be reversed. Next week you'll have the same squad you had in GW17 and only 1FT to use.

Bruce considering dropping Darlow following the return of Dubravka in the FA Cup. "Martin again reminded us of what a good goalkeeper he is and Karl has been very good all season. I've got one of them awful [decisions] - let's hope I pick the right one."
Not conclusive but enough uncertainty to avoid on a FH imo.

Re: Free Hit Game Week 18
Joining the FH gang today! A last-minute decision for me, catching up on all things FPL again after the break. That Villa game moving (and DCL's injury) took me from 9 players to 6. I think it sensible to have a bit of depth in your bench this week, no? At least one and preferably two likely-to-play kinda fellas. Brewster and Holding look fine to me for that purpose.
Nothing special here, although I seem to be the only one here taking Walker. Perhaps someone will tell me whether or not I'm an idiot:
Leno (4.0)
Walker, Cancelo, Dier (Holding, Douglas)
KDB, Bruno, Son, Rashford, Saka
Kane, Wilson (Brewster)
I was on Darlow, but DonReady's post above gave me pause. Sounds a bit like Bruce just keeping Dubravka happy, but you never know I guess.
