Free Hit Game Week 18
Lots of chatter about the WC16/BGW18/DGW19 period. I thought it’d be worth separating out the Free Hit discussion as it acts as a stand alone game week.
What are your plans?
EDIT: To add screen shot of the rules to respond to the FAQs about transfers. In short, the Free Hit Chip enables you to make unlimited transfers for a short period of time and so you go in to the following game week with the usual ONE TRANSFER however many you had at the start of the free hit game week.

Re: Free Hit Game Week 18
This is where I have got to in the first half hour since the deadline
Given all the changes to fixtures a playing bench seems to be more helpful than normal; and with this set up three players would be affected by any last minute COVID cancellation so the bench needs to run deep.
Oh, and Martinelli is arguably too strong for the bench. Switch for Tierney, perhaps?

Re: Free Hit Game Week 18
Really interesting point and one that I almost started a thread about a few moments ago but the decided on my tactic mid type.
I was planning on using my Free Hit for GW 17 due to the obvious lack of fixtures. But as it stands ad without making any transfers I could field 7 players. 1 x gk, 4 x mids and 2 x strikers.
I'm seriously thinking if playing with that and saving my FH and WC until the obvious amount of DGWs we're going to have due to COVID postponements.
Playing without a defence in 1 week doesn't sound too bad.

I have 9 right now, though one includes C.Taylor.Smurphy's Paw wrote: ↑01 Jan 2021, 17:56 Lots of chatter about the WC16/BGW18/DGW19 period. I thought it’d be worth separating out the Free Hit discussion as it acts as a stand alone game week.

I could get to 10 with a free, or 11 with a -4. Would I pay -4 for a FH for a different game week? Yes I probably would.
My FH plan was to avoid a 20-point week as I can’t see any fixtures to target (based on current form) with low ownership players. With the two additional fixtures FH looks a whole lot less attractive now.
I’m going to watch Kane and Rashford with great interest this game week, and may consider them for the three matches.

Re: Free Hit Game Week 18
I'll leave it until near the deadline before I finalise anything but when I last looked at options I ended up with something like -
3 City - KDB + 2 out of Dias/Cancelo/Stones/Ederson
3 Utd - Bruno, Rashford + 1other
3 Arse - possibly Saka, Holding, Lacazette?
+ Son and Wilson
I couldn't add Kane to the mix without losing out elsewhere.
Edit - Looking at the other posts here I like the look of Smurphys team so I'll start with that and make any tweaks needed

I'm still not 100% on FH18, but I'd be looking at...
Darlow
Cancelo Dias Tierney
KDB Fernandes Rashford Neto
Kane DCL Wilson
Considering Villa's defensive stats I'd be wary of doubling up on Spurs attackers.

Re: Free Hit Game Week 18
Here's my first effort, think there's only five players here I feel certain about at this point.
GK: Leno seems a solid pick, but De Gea running him close. The only other keeper I'd consider is Ederson - he's likely in if he's fit, given the uncertainty over City defenders' minutes.
DEF: So many options! Dias nailed for the first spot, and definitely playing three at the back as I don't see a bunch of predictable clean sheets this week. Given the number of good, cheap picks (like Holding, Stones, etc.) I'll probably decide on the mids/fwds and then see what budget is left for the last two def places. Not fancying CBs given low CS odds, so you'd immediately look for attacking full backs with assist/goal potential - sadly not many at some of the big teams (United, Spurs), maybe one of Bellerin/Tierney and then Cancelo.
MID: Bruno, Rashford, KDB nailed. Saka is an excellent enabler to fund a premium forward (Kane), but could also go DCL and give his slot to a better mid - Grealish, El Ghazi and Zaha are tempting, especially the latter against Arsenal. Son (and Kane) will largely depend on Spurs' form over the next few. Seriously doubt I'll get another City premium as it'll be KDB and then two from DEF/GK. No interest in Aubameyang.
FWD: Wilson nailed given his price and opposition. After that I'm unsure - Martial/Cavani have potential but may be battling each other for minutes. DCL looks ok, and is tempting as a shield given his ownership among the non FHers. If Aguero was fit and looked nailed he's also a strong consideration taking Kane/Son's slot.

Re: Free Hit Game Week 18
Yep, SP has a very strong-looking team. I'm wondering if Rashford/Dias might not be a better combination for my own team than Agüero/Maguire. City probably have the better clean sheet odds, but the lure of Agüero is a strong one...

Re: Free Hit Game Week 18
Reassured seeing that my first effort and SP's are virtually the same - in my eleven I have Saka/Holding to his Tierney/Lindelof. Out of interest I tried to make the exact same squad and was .8m short, so pretty much the difference between holding and Tierney (the latter obviously better).

Really like this front three, I don't think it sacrifices too much elsewhere if it's just for one week.

Similar to many. Currently sitting on:
Leno, (4.0)
Cancelo, AWB, Bellerin, (Kilman, Mitchell)
KDB, Sterling, Bruno, Rashford, Saka
Kane, Wilson, (Brewster)
I know they're not firing on all cylinders now, but City have scored 13 against Brighton in their past 3 league matches (and Sterling hauled against them after the restart).

Liverpool's last two games against Newcastle and West Brom has put things in perspective. Man City have a better build-up imo and created better chances against Newcastle.Fuzzy wrote:Similar to many. Currently sitting on:

Captaining against Brighton though, has usually been disappointing this season. Bruno was lucky, Salah didn't do much, Son blanked. Only Vardy has hauled. So I'd lean more towards 2-0 than 4-0 for Man City atm.

My present team for GW 18:
Martinez
Cancelo Dias Saiss
Bruno Son Grealish
DCL
How much of an advantage would a FH team have over this? Kane, KdB and Wilson are the popular options missing. Presently I'm happy with adding just KdB/Sterling, although Wilson has some good fixtures after 18.

Re: Free Hit Game Week 18
Im not playing FH as can get a full team out with no hits:
Martinez
Stones Cancelo Holding
Son Grealish Fernandes Sterling or KDB (havent decided yet which City mid i will bring in)
Kane Wilson DCL
Kilman as sub
Looking at the FH teams listed so far and i shouldn't fair too badly fingers crossed, Rashford is the only real differential that seems to be popular in peoples teams and i cant see united scoring heavily at burnley. Obviously things can change between now and the start of GW18 and FH will have the advantage of reacting to anything that happens.
