2018/19 Budget midfielders 4.5-5.5
We're going to try something new this season. After the success we had with the budget defenders thread last season, we are going to experiment with big 'band' threads this season. We won't be stickying these, but if we see threads that are comparing like for like players, we might merge those in this rather than allow multiple threads which end up repeating previous discussions. We'll see how it goes...

Will probably go with Stephens unless his start place comes under threat, although I will keep an eye on Chalobah.

Tom Cairney. He had something crazy like 10 goals and assists last season, and costs 5.0. He could be an amazing 4th mid.

Re: 2018/19 Budget midfielders 4.5-5.5
Ruben Neves had 3 (three) touches in the box all last season but still scored six goals. He is lethal at set plays just outside the area.chris2k_11 wrote: ↑06 Jul 2018, 14:45 seem neves (5.0) from wolves getting attention from PL managers at the moment ?? i think still early to tell, unproven yet and also from newly promoted team as well ........

Re: 2018/19 Budget midfielders 4.5-5.5
Neves is a wonderful player, but I'm not sure how he'll stack up from a FPL perspective. He's a nailed on starter and he did score 6 goals last season, all top drawer efforts from outside the box. He doesn't get many direct assists though, he tends to be the assist to the assister if that makes sense. He does also tend to attract a fair number of yellow cards.
As I say, I'm undecided how good a FPL pick he'll be, but I guarantee he'll get rave reviews each week on MOTD.

Then again at 5m I can't see too many better picks, he's a nailed on starter and he will get a few goals over the season. At that price he's a great enabler to release cash for other areas.

Re: 2018/19 Budget midfielders 4.5-5.5
Any Wolves fans with first hand knowledge of Ivan Cavaleiro?
I’m only going off of Whoscored but he’s shown as playing as a forward and had 9 goals and 10 assists. Considering he’s classed as a midfielder and priced at 5.5m p, if he’s going to be a regular starter, he could possibly be a dark horse. That said it’s an obvious step up from the Championship so no guarantee he’ll get close to those numbers.
Would just be interesting to hear from someone in the know.

Re: 2018/19 Budget midfielders 4.5-5.5
He was often used for 60 mins or so and then subbed off last season, or else brought on as a super sub if he didn't start. I think in part this is due to his work rate, he gives everything and earns himself a rest!
He plays as one of the front three, so he tends to be competing with Costa and Jota for a place. He's got great ability and I don't have too many doubts about his ability to make the step up, he's been capped by Portugal and if I remember rightly he might even have played in the champions league when he was at Monaco.
As with any Wolves players at the moment we're not really sure how many more we're likely to bring in so it's difficult to say who's nailed on at the moment. Given the season he had I'd be surprised if Cavaleiro didn't get a fair chunk of minutes next season though.

Yeah, Jota is nailed on and looks a bit of a bargain assuming of course he makes the step up. He is 6.5 on FPL and definitely one to watch.
Re the talk about Cavaleiro above: Fulham are sniffing around and keep coming back with bids that we are rejecting at the moment. Cav is not nailed on at Wolves but possibly would be more so at Fulham.

Re: 2018/19 Budget midfielders 4.5-5.5
Sorry to throw a cat among the pigeons and hes not in my team YET but Helder Costa was the star man for Wolves in 16/17 for what were a poor team that went through 4 managers. Unfortunately he picked up an injury and it hampered his pre season and the start of last season. With a full injury free pre season he could be one to watch, a high majority of goals for Wolves are created in wide areas whoever starts out of Costa, Cav and Jota are expected to score goals, at least I hope they do

As a 4.5 option I might offer up Arthur Masuaku who might push on as the left winger in front of Aaron Cresswell - although entirely speculation, and could easily be LB

How come no one has mentioned Deulofeu? He has the highest potential of any sub 6.5 player imo, and he costs only 5.5!

I saw a Watford review the other day with no mention of Chalobah (4.5). Is he not back fit? If he is I would think he would be in contention?

I think there are a few interesting 5.5 prospects: Deulofeu, Armstrong and Lookman. Hopefully we'll see through preseason if any are viable.

Kennedy in at 5.0 million looks the pick of the litter in the 5th midfield category if you can scrap the .5mill together.

Re: 2018/19 Budget midfielders 4.5-5.5
Fraser at 5.5?
Best stats of the price band
Team has good fixtures
Stanislas injured means less rotation risk?
Also interested in Cairney 5.0 and Armstrong 5.5
Surely no 5m midfielder has better attacking stats than Cairney? Armstrong is a classy player - will certainly provide assists and can score long range efforts. If he was 5 he’d be my pick all day long.
Both unproven at this level.

Is he a Midfielder or a Forward for you lot? (I assume Neve is a "proper" mid, as you said he rarely gets in the box, or similar?)sstaffsw wrote: ↑07 Jul 2018, 10:01 Yeah, Jota is nailed on and looks a bit of a bargain assuming of course he makes the step up. Re: 2018/19 Budget midfielders 4.5-5.5
Cavaleiro is very much a forward player and is in form this pre-season. Neves plays deep (only three touches of the ball inside the box all last season), is an amazing passer of the ball and is more than capable of producing a worldy out of nothing.
