I knew I read something that had talked about hits not counting. I knew I’d read something about taking hits if you wanted to qualify.

Then my opponent took a massive hit.

So I put 2+2 together and got 5.

Hits didn't count for Qualification, as Qualification was based on ranking 5.5M teams in a gameweek, not putting them h2h. Consistent with gameweek ranking.

Hits count for Cup Matches, as they're H2H matches.
Consistent with h2h scoring and leagues (although Cup is ko)

Yes, it's weird that a player takes 5 hits, and I understand that could mislead you to think it was taken in a wrong context (I.e. as if in qualification, where they didn't count). Maybe that manager didn't understand the Rules either. Or maybe he doesn't care for the Cup, or didn't realise there IS a Cup...
Probably the vast majority of 5.5M FPL players have no idea of the actual FPL rules overall and just like to click on player names and jerseys....

Yes, I saw the 22- -3 and the penny (pre my question this morning) hadn’t dropped

I was armed with the misinterpreted knowledge that hits don’t count! So I was going off the scores displayed on my team page and his team page.

Now I’m fully informed, I’ll probably get booted out at the next round anyway (if not tonight).

And yes, you are probably right re a lot of people not being fully aware of the mechanics. I’ve played FPL for 6 years at a guess. Not sure I noticed there was even a cup competition till last year.

Trying to play more seriously this year and still didn’t understand (or bother reading up on it)... and from a FF perspective I’m probably more dedicated that joe public.

With the huge number of teams they have started it early this season. A top 4.2m rank in gameweek 16 gets you through to the Cup proper.
