Possibly it's due more to sloppy thinking. When you think how many people haven't made the effort to get the necessary information for themselves and thought through the implications of Brexit, when the outcome could affect their lives for 30 or 40 years, it's not surprising if they similarly rely on impressions rather than on researched facts when it comes to the relatively unimportant task of selecting their fantasy team.From4corners wrote: ↑27 Jul 2017, 13:10Please define "always" . I'm pretty sure most if not all on fiso think Kane is the best player in the game. However is he the best for the first couple of games when there are other probably better captain alternatives? This really should be in the Kane thread though, no?

He'll doubtless arrive in my team at some stage. But not in GW1.

Re: Harry Kane
Some have mentioned Kane has tended to start slow the last couple of seasons. This year he has had a full summer break, which he didn't have prior to the last two seasons, having played in Euro 2016 and the U21s Euro championship in 2015. Not saying that was the cause, just drawing the link for consideration

That's what I've been looking at. He sounds niggle free too. Harry Kane goals over last 3 seasons in Spurs first 10 games: 7
Harry Kane goals over last 3 seasons in Spurs games 11-20: 25
Fairly common knowledge to be fair without the need for statistical backup.
Nonetheless, I don't actually believe the correlation for this kind of thing is that strong across multiple seasons and will probably end up with him in my starting xi out of pure fear

16/17 - he only played 5/10 (scored 2)abraml10 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2017, 17:54So true re brexit... However..Striker wrote: ↑27 Jul 2017, 16:19Possibly it's due more to sloppy thinking. 15/16 - scored 1 in the first 10
14/15 - wasn't a first choice player at this stage and didn't start a Prem game until 9th Nov (after doing well in the Europa).
Hence why jumping to any conclusions about his slow starts is futile.

Re: Harry Kane
What's amusing is not that the slow start argument keeps being brought forth regardess it's been discussed dozen of times.
It's that everytime his same scoring data keep being reminded and reposted, with different levels of detail of course

Currently on Morata and Lacazette as I can make a nice team out of that but Harry will score loads. Probably can't win without him in the team, but when is the question. I will hope he takes a while to fire slowly and in that time one of these two will go up in price so I can hop onto him. Risk/reward, perhaps cost me for the season perhaps not.

Re: Harry Kane
I only saw highlights of the pre season but he did not look sharp at all. First touch let him down on occasions. Happens to all top class strikers but as long as they are getting into the right positions and getting good service the goals will come.
Anyone watching his performances more closely care to comment?
Still as the most expensive in the game I will not get him until he becomes essential.

For once I agree with Redknapp. Spurs Will not be as good the season. New stadium and no New players because of Levi. I Will Waitz and see, to expensive at the moment.

Re: Harry Kane
I think that FPL is not about having the right players, its about having them at the right time. There may be a "Wembley effect". I suspect that will be more of an "away from home" effect than the pitch being the same size as most other prem clubs.
So if there is an argument not to include Kane - Who do you include?
Lukaku - New club, New manager, new teammates & style of play
Aguero - Pep playing WBs this year, still lokking at his best line up. Pre season tells me Jesus may be No1. Kun will play, but maybe reduced minutes.
Jesus - As above
Morata - New club, New manager, new country, new teammates & style of play
Lacazette - New club, New manager, new country, new teammates & style of play
So - an element of risk to any choice really, isnt there?

Re: Harry Kane
Personally I think Kane is pretty much fixture proof and has had two seasons scoring 20+ goals. Also on penalties. Can't see Wembley affecting him too much.

There is no settled premium striker. All have inherent risk - the days of just putting aguero in and forgetting about the whole issue are long gone.

Re: Harry Kane
Ignoring the fact that there are still 4 weeks of the window left and Spurs 'could' still sign many players;
It's interesting that fans now demand/expect squads to be overhauled every summer. I remember when it used to be the done thing to have a steady/consistent group of players. The big teams would bring in one or two new players to freshen things up... but any more was seen as too disruptive.
It was the Houllier led Liverpool type teams bringing in 6 players that were seen to be desperate.

Re: Harry Kane
I don't think anyone can question Kane's ability or potential for goals and FPL points, but this idea that people are supposedly needing to re-assure themselves that everything will all be okay if they haven't picked him is ridiculous.
Not only is it just a game and therefore nothing to bring on anxiety, but in terms of the game itself more than ever there are genuine alternatives that will still score big points and allow for money to be spent elsewhere.

Re: Harry Kane
I've looked at it and like the team I can get without him but I just can't go without him. As others have said he can be swapped to any other striker should he tank. Would be much harder to get him in if he rises by 0.1 in the first week.

Re: Harry Kane
Erm, come again? What the hell
I'm keeping a million in the bank in case he smashes it against Newcastle and I can swoop in 1 transfer. If he blanks, or even manages just 5,6 points, I'll feel absolutely no need to rush him in as his price will not go up, possibly decline if other big hitters score bigger. Indeed if he blanks I could be licking my lips at a price fall by GW3. It's a calculated risk but everything is at this stage. I'm envisaging the worst and really, not a major issue either way as long as you have flexibility.

Talking of price rises and falls etc. I haven't really ever got my head around how to capitalise on these, or what dictates player price rises and falls typically. Can someone point me in the direction of anything that can help me learn more about it?
