FPL Press Conferences 2017/18

Post by Billy Bongo »

Seems we are spreading stuff over over several threads , any chance we can use one thread for any nuggets or titbits in here?

Anyway, first rumour Lallana could be out for 4 months

There's an injury news thread here:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=124886

I think we could start a 2017/18 Press Conference thread in the next week though, BB if you want to do the honours (rename this thread if you like)?

Can't change in Tapatalk :)

I always find it odd we can't have a small sticky in here for gw team news and injuries, you are forced to search elsewhere, it's like the head admin still uses a laptop and can't believe most people use phones :(

I'm of the opinion (as are quite a lot) information should be shared across all boards and not in a sub-forum that some don't use, certainly threads which aren't game specific.

It would be great if people update this central resource rather than starting their own.

I think the communities for the different games are quite siloed so information sharing is quite hard. The basic shared injury thread is common and is useful but I do think that sometimes the specifics of the FF genre are important in the consequence of the news/injury.

Last year one of the more popular threads in the FPL sub forum was in fact the news conference thread. I'm all for encouraging community, but when the community decides to split itself (and it's been that way for as long as I've been here) then I don't want to fight that.

You can't be too lazy now, you have responsibilities :D ... I've changed the title of the thread, you are now the OP for the "FPL Press Conferences 2017/18" thread.

With the new season fast approaching, I thought I'd post some of the early team news/injury updates in here to keep us up to date on things. :)

Dwight Gayle "should" be available to face Spurs according to Benitez after missing the friendly with Hellas Verona.

Ramsey & Ozil remain doubts for Friday's clash with Leicester. Ozil has "a little chance" of recovering.

Pulis is expecting to have a full squad for the visit of Bournemouth. Morrison & McAuley should rejoin the group in training this week. Chadli & Brunt weren't risked in Spain due to minor problems. Evans [hamstring] was withdrawn in the warm-up. All three should be fine.

Still no definitive timeline on Mauro Zarate who has been sidelined since rupturing his ACL against West Ham back in February.

Silva also played down concerns over Kabasele [hamstring] and Cathcart [knee] who missed the 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad. Silva says Deeney should rejoin the first-team next week "with some precautions" as he continues he recovery from groin surgery.

Cabaye is expected to miss GW1 as he continues his recovery from the injury which has kept him sidelined since the win over West Brom.

Hughes hoping Bojan injury is not serious: “It might me just a kick to the calf. He felt it and we had no option but to take him off."

Lennon and McCarthy missed today's 2-2 draw with Sevilla: "Aaron was not fit and James still has some issues with his knee," RK said.

Could be The Long and Winding Road back from injury for both of them.

Boewstring the Carp (on FFS) has put together an outstanding google doc with all the quotes from managers in preseason:
BtC on FFS wrote:So over preseason, I've been following each team, and putting together a preseason "press conference" essentially, taking everything managers have said about new signings, tactics and anything that might help us as FPL managers and compiling them together.

Be warned, there is over 60 pages, but I've tidied it up and hope to continue updating it up until Thursday night/ Friday morning.

If you think I've missed anything important or made any mistakes, let me know.

Alexis Sanchez ruled out in GW1.

May I now claim my first I told you in this season? I have been saying for almost a year that he is a poor pick!

Wenger pretty much said Sanchez would also miss the Stoke game, and was non-committal on his return beyond that. Does this open up Wellbeck or Walcott as an option. If either plays and scores they could get a run. I thought Wellbeck in particular looked strong in the Charity Shield. Both W's are nicely priced at 7.5 if they get the gametime.

Sanchez's tummy bug + abdominal strain has the look of a series of excuses that will suddenly clear up if Arsenal agree to let him go this month.

What makes Abraham less appealing. WIthout the main midfielder of the team Swansea loses a lot their attacking strenght.

Local reports suggest Coutinho and Sturridge failed to train again today and are likely to miss trip to Watford.

Cathcart, Kabasele, Dja Djedje and Zarate miss out for Watford.
