Cheap Midfielders

Post by splimsplam »

Need a few fillers.

Does anyone have some suggestions of 4.5 to 5.0 midfielders that will play. I'm not really up on the likes of Brighton, Newcastle, Huddersfield? Any gems in there worth having?

So far I'm interested in the Loftus-Cheek and Oriol Romeu.

Any others out there?

Loftus-Cheek and Tom Carroll at Swansea would seem to be the obvious ones so far. Loftus-Cheek with more potential but Carroll would appear to have more guaranteed gametime and a decent attacking threat.

Loftus-Cheek at 4.5m seems the popular one. Tom Carroll also, agreed.

5m looks pretty sparse to me. If they keep their places Puncheon (on some set pieces) or Milivojevic (on pens and some free-kicks), both at Palace, perhaps the most promising of a bad bunch?

Obiang will most certainly play at 4.5m too

What about Chalobah who has just joined Watford, available for 4.5?

I'll probably go for RLC or Tom Carroll.
Last season I went with Darren Fletcher who even subbed on one GW for me and got 10pts!

They've been quite generous with those two I think, it really helps a 433 I think to have two viable base price mids.

There are no Hudds midfielders, under 5.5, I'd consider.

Romeu seems the most obvious choice to me in the sense that he's likely to be nailed on all season barring an injury - the others look like they have better potential but less nailed on long term

Romeu gets nearly as many bookings as Holevas.

I had Tom Carroll as well, but switched to RLC for now. If I reckon that RLC will start, I see no reason to even look at other players. Otherwise, I might revert to Carroll, but beware: Swansea signed Mesa, who threatens Carroll. Chalobah on the watchlist.

Jack Cork, new £10m (real money) Burnley player at £4.5m (FPL money)? Likely to play and maybe the odd goal in him. Was he a more attacking mid coming through at Chelsea before he went to Swansea?

If Delph gets a move to another prem club, he would be a great £4.5m option

Cork scored a goal off the bench for me two seasons ago, but I think other than that he was more likely to get a booking than an attacking contribution. I don't even know if he will start, but if he does I think he's probably just another 4.5m 2 pointer.

Cork will be a starter but Lofty Cheeeks or Shallowbar have that 4.5 or nailed I think

I wonder if this might be the year for Lewis Cook to breakthrough at Bournemouth? Winning the U20 World Cup as captain must add some confidence for him.

Yes, if only he can stay fit. That's what really limited his chances of getting established at City, and now I think the chance has passed - he'll have to move if he wants to play.

Cork, Brady, Walters ... who can inherit the Boydinho legacy?

Ndidi is slipping under the radar at 5.0 for Leicester - 59 points in 17 games last season - would appear nailed on based on last season and in theory should only improve.

Also, Atsu at Newcastle?

Atsu is likely to be the back-up option for either winger, don't expect too many starts from him this season.

Demarai Gray at 5.5. If Mahrez does leave he could be the one to take his place

Thinking about having two 4.5s to go for the total recall up front.

Mesa, Carroll, RLC, Chabolah, McArthur, Cork and Romeu seem to be the main options and then there's the plethora of Huddersfield and Brighton options which might become clearer after a few games.

RLC seems to have a lot of competition with McArthur, Cabaye and Milijovejic. Think Chabolah is gonna be nailed. Or would it be crazy to just get both Carroll and Mesa to have one guaranteed starter as I'm never gonna need both to play?

Gradel BOU @ £5m...seems very attacking, how likely to play?

Puncheon CPL @ £5m, been made captain so should be safe

Can LIV @ £5m, did well at times last year, how likely to play?

@ £5.5 I also like Walters BUR, and Gundog MCY

Interestingly, Palace's first friendly was 343, despite De Boer traditionally being a 433 man.

In that formation the only place for Loftus-Cheek is as one of the CM two, and Milivojevic & Cabaye are surely favourite for those spots (Puncheon 5m actually played alongside pen-taking Mili 5m in the friendly with Cabaye 5.5m missing). So it'll be interesting to see if De Boer sticks with the formation in preseason - if he does it's game over for RLC as a viable 4.5m pick I think.

In a 433 there's an extra (and a slightly more attacking) CM spot available for RLC, but with this early indication being that Puncheon (now club captain) has a future in the slightly deeper CM role to his more traditional AM one it could well be that RLC misses out whichever the setup.

In this 343 there could be a different cheapie emerging though. With Townsend deployed at RM/RWB, it was Bakary Sako (only 5.0m) who played on the one side of the front three alongside Benteke and Zaha. Though maybe they'll find/sign someone more suited to the right almost-wing-back role pushing Townsend forward.

Either way, RLC is looking a bit questionable after friendly one. Tom Carroll back to the top of my list anyway.
