Is Danny Simpson a safe bet at 4.5 for a decent run of games?
Need Hegazi replacement.
Other options Wimmer, Loewe (fixtures turning for the worse) , Dunk?

TAA not even on the bench tonight!
What does it mean? Is he now more likely or more unlikely to start on Saturday?

Pinnocho (ie fook nose), but I'd err on the side of starting.

I settled on Gamez to free funds for Kane. I also have TAA. I'm hoping to get a GW or two out of them before I WC

I've taken a punt on Gamez (New) for £4m hopefully he'll get a start.

Re: £4.0m/£4.5m defensive gems - 2017/18
I brought Kiko in last week but that was to cover my defence's worse weeks which are week 6 and 10.
Seems like he is only cover for Janmaat too, so may have been a total error. On the plus side Janmaat seems to be injured a lot so maybe a good chance Kiko will play, one way or another.

He looks pretty good in the short term because he's been playing well and is in the team, but 'nailed'? It's very possibly he could be replaced by Manquillo (or Lejeune, with Clark moving to LB), but the last game suggests he might have the position for now since the defence playing so well as a unit. It's not a guarantee though, that's if you need a guarantee for the only 4m in the game with a genuine chance of playing games? I've currently got him in my team on that basis alone.

Thanks, I probably buy him then.Stemania wrote:He looks pretty good in the short term because he's been playing well and is in the team, but 'nailed'? It doesn't matter too much if he then makes no-shows later, but what I can't stand are cameos obviously. Does Rafa tend to substutitute wing backs? Is it possible Mbemba does cameos if he doesn't start?

Re: £4.0m/£4.5m defensive gems - 2017/18
As a Toon fan I think Mbemba has been pretty solid at LB, although when Dummett returns I expect Chancel to be back on the bench due to Rafa liking that Left/Right foot balance across the pitch. The only reason Lejuene hasn’t stepped back into the squad is due to Lascelles’ surprise run of form. On the other hand, the back 4’s playing well as a unit regardless of the balance so Rafa could well leave things alone until a change is required.Finisher1 wrote: ↑22 Sep 2017, 10:41Thanks, I probably buy him then.Stemania wrote:He looks pretty good in the short term because he's been playing well and is in the team, but 'nailed'? Regarding subs/cameo’s, at the moment Shelvey’s been coming on for Hayden/Perez and Gayle (or Mitro) for Joselu. The other two being Diame/Murphy on for Perez/Atsu/Ritchie. It’s rare that Rafa will disrupt the back 4; unless there’s a problem he’ll leave it alone.

Stem and swadd1er bang on the money as usual. Mbemba in the 'his place to lose until Dummett is fit again' category.

Re: £4.0m/£4.5m defensive gems - 2017/18
I’d like us to try a back 3 of Clark, Lejuene, Lascelles with Yedlin and Dummett/Mbemba (not so much) as wing backs.
I imagine the main reason why we haven’t is due the lack of quality we have in the “left footed left back” department. I don’t see Dummett in the same category as Alonso, Rose or Mendy. I still believe this is the area that we can improve the most and with a quality left back that can only pose well for attacking returns as well as defensive.

Anyone have any intel on Mariappa and if he's nailed on or just covering for an injury?

Britos is coming back this week; I'd assume both Kabasele and him are preferred over Mariappa. But this is just a guess based on game time they had from previous weeks, so I'm not exactly sure.

Where are we at with the £4.0 defenders at the moment?
Mbemba probably rising to £4.1 tonight but missed Newcastle's last game completely (not even on the bench).

there aren't any, but with the Burnley (among others) defenders performing so well for just .5(or .6 for Ward) more I'm not sure why anybody would want one.

Re: £4.0m/£4.5m defensive gems - 2017/18
Indeed and it's probably just me but I'm quite content to have a non-playing 4.0 on the bench as it gives me fewer decisons to make every week. Obviously that plan has some flaws but I'm a fan of limiting the number of selection decisions every week...Billy Bongo wrote: ↑12 Oct 2017, 20:29To save 0.5 or 0.6Gambit wrote:there aren't any, but with the Burnley (among others) defenders performing so well for just .5(or .6 for Ward) more I'm not sure why anybody would want one.

Re: £4.0m/£4.5m defensive gems - 2017/18
Btw, I see that Watford's Mariappa, at 4.0, played his 6th consecutive game, with 3 90's' and the last one 62'. Is this permanent, or is he just a placeholder for someone that's currently injured?
Also, Brighton's Hunemeier, at 3.9, came in for the last 17' of the match for Shane Duffy who exited with a groin injury. Maybe an opportunity for the cheapest defender this season to play a few games?
Lastly, on the negative side, I see that Mbemba, at 4.0, put up his second goose egg in a row when he warmed up the bench the entire match. It seems as his run may be over until the next injury.

Good info ta, hopefully someone will be able to advise on Mariappa.
I’m looking at Stoke as they have some decent fixtures, either Wimmer or Cameron, both 4.4m

Shame the Holgate / Martina conundrum hasn’t yet been settled. Both £4.3m with good fixtures on the way, and EVE have to improve (don’t they??)
