Thanks Stem.. at the moment I have Lascelles who I thought, as appointed club Captain, would have been nailed on.
I also have the 4.0 Elliot in goal but now it looks like I'll have to review both of these picks for GW1 :(

Danny Simpson i see is coming in at 4.5, could Leicester pull their defence together under Shakespeare.

Brighton's new LB Suttner is a free kick specialist apparently, could be worth watching.

On another forum I use a Huddersfield supporter has given a quick run down of what he thinks will be their starting XI. Looking at their defensive record last season, I think he might be overrating them a tad but, here are the defenders...
Tommy Smith- RB in Championship team of the year last season, one of the top assisters in the league.

Christopher Schindler- classy as eff, scored our winning penalty, incredibly intelligent CB that I'd say is one of our most likely players to be wanted by a bigger club this time next year.

Matheus 'Zanka' Jorgensen- captain of Copenhagen last season, believe he was in Champions League team of the group stage after they kept 4 clean sheets out of 6 games. Looks a real steal at £3.5m, and a massive personality.

Chris Löwe- always 7/10 LB, think he'll make the step up just fine, but also just signed Scott Malone from Fulham for competition.
Will be keeping an eye on Schindler definitely on my short...list.

Think Smith is at 5M though, so not relevant to this particular thread.

Are Hudd and Brighton that good? I know zip about the first, except that Keane gave them Rhodes for diddly squat, where it is and their kit. Brighton have done well in Cup matches against fullish strength Prem sides in the past few sesaons?

It's been a while since two promoted Clubs have got battered?

When it was mentioned that Lowe and Malone were fighting for a place at Huddersfield I actually thought, I wonder which one has better pun potential.

Were you Lowe in GW1?
Were you Nyom-Malone?
That sort of thing.

That Rhodes deal is literally the worst transfer sale we ever made.
We've hung around in the Championship ever since, often struggling for goals, while he's hung around in the Championship and scored 3569457424678883 goals.

Sorry for OT.

I'm a Hudds fan too, I'd agree with what the other guy is saying but you have to remember we weren't rock solid in the Championship and we now have a new GK who was dropped from his Bundesliga side part way through last season for making too many mistakes.

Attacking wise, Smith scored 4 goals and finished 3rd top assister in the Championship last season, but Lowe (if he can keep Malone out of the team) should take more free kicks and be 1st choice pen taker. Also though, Smith injured his foot in the PLay off final and is not back in full training yet. I would very much recommend giving our defence a swerve intially, although our early fixtures are not as taxing as they could be, at least on paper.

We made? EVER

That said he didn't get too long against them for Sheff Weds in the Semis; and I think you have underegged the number of goals he has scored

So I now know to avoid Hudd defenders as they have a Calamity GK to add to their woes......

Glenn Murray (now at Brighton) did OK at Palace(?) before or after a bad injury and then a sale?

Is there any chance of Brighton Rock-ing the League with a Counter Attacking, possession dominating style like a certain Club in blue and white did far too long ago? Who could be the Jamie Clapham, Marcus Atewart..... ?

Someone at FFS mentioned about Rosenior being a popular choice among 4.0m defenders.
Does he have a chance to be a regular starter at Brighton?

I read on FFS that he wasn't a nailed on regular and that prompted me to take him out my team :?

Will "set piece specialist" 4.5 Suttner be nailed on LB, or bought as a squad player?

Dunk seems to have a decent scoring rate for Brighton, certainly in the two seasons preceding last one - 7 in 44 and 4 in 41 respectively. Though I note he only played 21 games last season. Anyone got the inside track? Cheers

I'm going with a 5.5, 5 and 3x4.5's template regarding the defence probably. Regarding the 4.5 defenders I'm thinking Francis, Mee and Fernandez. I'm just inclined to go for the tried and trusted defenders in the Prem rather than the promoted teams. Anyone else thinking the same? Could do with more research into the promoted teams 4.5 and even 4 bracket to see if there is value there and if anyone is nailed.

Newcastle defenders fall into that "tried & tested" category? :)

Dunk, Duffy, Bruno and Bong. Certainly Brighton got a good defensive line with all those names, maybe they up for grabs for some cs's?

"Dunk, Duffy, Bruno, Bong" - that's my team name (in a different order) to celebrate finally being able to pick players from my team in a premier league fantasy comp :D
Dunk and Duffy are both reasonably prominent at corners, usually good for 2 or 3 goals a season - one thing to note, Lewis Dunk is somewhat of a yellow card magnet - he was sailing fairly close to 15 yellows and a three game ban towards the end of last season. I would think that these two are by far the safest choices - Bruno, though a great player and club captain, turns 38 years old shortly, and LB is still to be sorted though presumably Suttner is favourite.

I believe a lot of people are buying him because he's the only £4.0 defender that people know. As far as I can see, he might get some game time, but I wouldn't bet on him starting right away. To be honest, I put him in my first draft but then realized he could be a relatively popular £4.0 defender, which could make his price drop once people see he's not starting.
The truth is that the £4.0 options are even more limited than last season. There's not a single one that gives even a shimmer of hope right now. The bright side is that it's a player not meant to make the pitch under most circunstances, so I'd just pick anyone whose price isn't likely to go down. So far I went with Huddersfield's Stankovic because it seems to me that he could be chosen in case of injury to one of the regulars, but I'm not really expecting anything from him.
Don't work your brain too much around this one. During the season someone will appear to hold that 5th defender spot.
