Matip is training already, so he could play as early as tomorrow (ie, Klavan could lose his spot as early as tomorrow, not 3 games).

Currently sit with Dummett on the book but not sure he’ll start versus Brighton. Any toonies here who would mind giving there view on Newcastle defence? Considering simply replacing Dummett with more certain starter.

I am also interested in Newcastle given their decent fixtures - about to buy Mbemba for a cheap 3.9 enabler to squeeze in the rising Firminho as well.
Any Toon fans think Mbemba will start next GW?

Will Lowton be straight back in this week or is there a chance that Bardsley keeps his spot?
He looks the best bet at 4.5 if he's nailed.

Re: £4.0m/£4.5m defensive gems - 2017/18
Alex McCarthy (4.4m) has started the last two in goal for Southampton. Despite the Saints lowly league position they're the eighth best team in terms of XGa and =11th for actual goals against. From GW25-32 they have a nice run of fixtures. Either as a downgrade to free up cash, or if Chelsea blank in GW28, I'm looking at him as a Courtiois replacement to see me through until the second wildcard. He might interest though who have to move Pope on too if/when that happens.

I think Forster is bound to regain his place sooner or later.dino1980 wrote: ↑11 Jan 2018, 06:41 Alex McCarthy (4.4m) has started the last two in goal for Southampton. Mbemba is a no go, he's been shown the door by Benitez which is a shame. However, Benitez likes Dummett as he's our only left footed fullback. He's liable for a mistake, but with Lascelles back in the side, we tend not to concede too many. Could be a good bet now he's back from injury.

Kevin Wimmer is only 4.2 and Stoke's fixtures are green and kind from GW24-29. Not sure he'll keep his place when Martins Indi and Shawcross are back, though. Not sure Stoke will keep a lot of clean sheets either, but I've kept him since GW8 wildcard so might just keep hold for a while longer

Potentially a good spot there. I don't think I'm going to have enough frees to be making too many defensive transfers (might just have one though), but he could be a good cheeky cut-price short term pick indeed. My only real problems with him are19Yorke wrote: ↑11 Jan 2018, 11:38 Kevin Wimmer is only 4.2 and Stoke's fixtures are green and kind from GW24-29. 1) He's Wimmer
2) Stoke's defence
but maybe a new manager can remedy at least one of those.

I'm not so sure, Forster has been dropped due to poor performances, it now appears to be McCarthy's place to lose.Finisher1 wrote: ↑11 Jan 2018, 08:16I think Forster is bound to regain his place sooner or later.dino1980 wrote: ↑11 Jan 2018, 06:41 Alex McCarthy (4.4m) has started the last two in goal for Southampton. You'd think either Forster has a good chance of regaining his place or, if the manager has lost complete confidence in him they could spend some of their VVD money. Either way it's a big gamble.

What about Palace's Tomkins at 4.3? He's started 9 of the last 10 matches and the last 7 straight games. Their next 5 fixtures aren't too bad either . . . BUR, ars, whu, NEW, eve
Does he have that D position locked up for now, or is there someone else set to come back from injury that could take his starting job?

Definitely locked up. Dann is gone for the season and sakho is yet to return from his calf injury
Palace are surely looking for a cb in January
Palace have widespread injury worries though so are very vulnerable at the moment

If they wanted a GK they could have got one form Liverpool as part of the VvD deal

Re: £4.0m/£4.5m defensive gems - 2017/18
Thank you, NWJ. I do see hat CP are hurting right now. I was simply looking for a 5th D that is playing 90, or close to 90, who could come in once in a blue moon (hopefully never!) if rotation / injuries require my team to dip deep into the bench for help. Having a non-playing player on the bench (ie, Mariappa) sux!No Way Jose wrote: ↑11 Jan 2018, 21:17 Definitely locked up. Dann is gone for the season and sakho is yet to return from his calf injury

Nope, confirmed on twitter he was ok to play after the Luton game, got a knock but was only brought off as a precaution. Should start tomorrow, I mean he played through a double hernia for a couple games at the end of last season, so the bloke can take a knock.hancockjr wrote: ↑11 Jan 2018, 19:55Isn’t lascalles injured again?87AK wrote: ↑11 Jan 2018, 11:18Mbemba is a no go, he's been shown the door by Benitez which is a shame. Item 1 there a bit hard to remedy for any manager I guess Probably wouldn't spend a transfer on him I think, despite the fixtures, unless the D5 is non-playing and really needs replacement.Stemania wrote: ↑11 Jan 2018, 11:49Potentially a good spot there. The stats are dark and full of errors.
Re: £4.0m/£4.5m defensive gems - 2017/18
If I take a third cheapie (to add to Masuaku and Dunk) it would be Dummett at the moment. I wouldn't expect too many points, but he'll be playable this week and in about half of the next 10 games. For 4.2, you can't ask for anything more.
