Safely through here.
Next up is yet another active team, ranked 205k. I've still not faced a dead team, but then to win the cup you have to beat the best teams! :s

Think I got my first active team - with a power-defence in 433;
de Gea
Rose, Cahill, Azpi, Baines
Decent attack, but no Sanchez or Kane

Re: FPL Cup '16-'17
I have an active team ranked 500k.
It's actually quite a good team with Sanchez, Alli, Zlatan (same as me), Azpi for my Alonso, Walker, Lallana and 3 x Boro (they have a good game). Plus Heaton who is generally the bane of my life.
It's problematic because I want to captain Hazard (who he doesn't have) while he will captain Sanchez almost for sure (did last week). If I captain Hazard I may well bring the game down to Hazard v Sanchez. If I go with Sanchez and neutralise the captaincy then I will have Valencia v Walker, Baines v Gibson, Hazard v Lallana and Lukaku v Negredo all favouring my team I think.
The logical thing is to captain Sanchez but I think I will stick with Hazard; OR matters more than the Cup, right?

Indeed - Cup is a bonus-game in my view, for now at least. FWIW, my Captain has been locked on Sanchez, and I'm not going to make a late change again (changed from Kane to Sanchez 30 min before deadline last week..)Ruth_NZ wrote:OR matters more than the Cup, right?

Re: FPL Cup '16-'17
Good luck to those left. I have a tricky tie today. The guy is ranked about 400k but has a good team on paper which covers most of my strengths. Could really do with an Ibra haul and a blank from Lallana.

I'm 5 behind.
He has Hazard and Van Dijk.
I have Heaton, Alonso, Sanchez and Giroud.
I'm definitely still in this tie, but certainly not through yet.

I'm up 36 - 17
Both have Azpi & Iwobi so comes down to;
Courtois & Haz (c) vs. Cech, Kos & Alonso
Fairly secure, surely Alonso wont repeat last GW - Arsenal letting one in would def help just in case!

You will also get points for Holgate coming on for Evans so plus five for that. I am hoping the gunners do not concede though.Scottoffee wrote:I'm up 36 - 17

I'm 32-8 up. We both have Sanchez (C) to come and then it is my Heaton, Alonso & Haz v Courtois, Koscielny, Azpilicueta, Van Dijk & Costa.
So I'm in a decent position but a Chelsea cs and Costa outscoring Haz and it begins to get close. He also has Fletcher, McAuley, Phillips on the bench to my Jones, Fletcher, Amat so any no shows could also be bad.

I am 33-32 up but it will be very close.
Me: Alonso, Hazard x2
Him: Heaton, Azpi, Sanchez, Costa
Basically I need Hazard to hit a big one if I am to go through I think.

11 points lead with my Hazard against his Azpi, Alonso, (C)osta ...
This will be very close with me being a slight underdog?

Your next opponent looks good but has made no transfers since December. Made good captain choices last few weeks though.Aldershot Rejects wrote:Sneaking through with 60. Probably my best cup run ever.
I pick you will go through for another week What team changes are you planning for the cup against him or are you just concentrating on OR?

Re: FPL Cup '16-'17
It's a decent draw. I thought initially he was a semi-dead team given the lack of transfers but as you say he keeps changing his captain and has made good choices over the past few weeks. I'm mainly concentrating on OR but on marginal decisions I might think about the cup. I suspect he'll captain Ibra this week whereas I was going with Sanchez so I might rethink that given that it is fairly marginal anyway. I think my squad is stronger so his two chances are that one of his players gets a large haul or his captain does far better than mine.Oxford NZ wrote:Your next opponent looks good but has made no transfers since December. What about you? Your opponent has been on a decent run and has a team with potential to score well.

Well done both, I got done by McAuley's points basically.Aldershot Rejects wrote:It's a decent draw. I think this may help you on OR too, AR. I reckon Zlatan's the better choice next week.

It's tough when you get stuffed by a defender scoring 10+ points.Ruth_NZ wrote: Well done both, I got done by McAuley's points basically.

I will need to think about Zlatan. I am trying to pick my captains in blocks of 3 weeks to try and cut out some of the variance when you base the choice on one week only and this would be third of the Sanchez block - he's done OK in the last 2 weeks. Having said that I could probably now go on a 3 week run with Zlatan. It's a difficult one - I trust Hull more than Watford defensively at the moment but as you say Utd are due a haul and Hull are haemorrhaging midfielders.

My next guy's active but not very good - OR 1.4m ish to my 18k ish.
Major threat is Sanchez and maybe Giroud / Phillips.
I could do with Ibra (prob C) / Lukaku / Lallana doing well.

I think I will go out this week as I am not making changes to combat my opponent. He has a similar line up and a few stronger players. I am following Ruth NZ 's advice with Captain Ibra rather than Sanchez. No transfers this week as I do not want to take a hit and save FT for next week.
Good luck to those still in the cup

I'm down 21 - 36 at the moment but reckon I should be coming out on top...
I've got Baines, Holgate, Valencia, A. Carroll, Lukaku & Ibra (c) to go.
He only has Coleman & Pieters.
Glad that Sanchez didn't do more - he Triple Captained him!

Down 26 to 29 ATM but my opponent will only get 2 points for an automatic transfer taking him to 31, so I only need 5 points with Captain Ibra and crouch (if he plays) still to come. This will be my lowest GW since joining in GW2 I think.

Winning 30-17. I've got Baines, Jones & Zlatan to come; he's got Pieters, Stones, Pogba, Sterling & Zlatan (c). It could easily go either way but as a pessimist I'm preparing myself for defeat.
