Lol, or they may be correctly assessing the chance he has to talk Cameroon federation into letting him go

Cameroon have just announced their AFCON list of 23 players, looks like Nyom and Matip are not in the squad.

Nyom owners are such luckboxes. First that sketchy 8 points for a "clean sheet" and now this

They could still be prevented from playing for their clubs for the whole duration of the tournament - even if Cameroon don't progress.

I really can't see that rule being enforced as it appears that Nyom personally travelled to Cameroon to ask permission to miss the tournament.

Re: AFCON 2017
Reading into it, this seems highly unlikely as the whole point of that rule is for cases where a player wants to play for their country, but the club doesn't want to release them.TheoRiginal wrote:They could still be prevented from playing for their clubs for the whole duration of the tournament - even if Cameroon don't progress.
In this case, the player(s) seem to have clearly made the decision of their own volition. Unless we're looking a for a return of slavery, this would probably be laughed out of court* (should it go that far).
*Plus after throwing out Suarez's 'release clause' and getting Sakho off a drug ban, I can't imagine Liverpool's John Henry taking this stance without having gone over the contract/rules with a fine toothed comb.

Senegal have qualified for the knock out stage where their Quarter final match will be on January 28, which reduces Mané's chances of being back for Liverpool v Chelsea on January 31.

It might be a false memory on my part, but is it right that returning players usually take a little time to get back up to speed after AFCON?

If Senegal got knocked out on January 28, I'm sure that Mané would be on the first flight back to England to make that Chelsea fixture on the 31st.bspittles wrote:It might be a false memory on my part, but is it right that returning players usually take a little time to get back up to speed after AFCON?

Re: AFCON 2017
Ivory coast out so returning home are:
Max Gradel (Bournemouth)
Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace)
Eric Bailly (Manchester United)
Wilfried Bony (Stoke)
Lamine Kone (Sunderland)
Brice Dja Djedje (Watford)
Also, Algeria out so Riyad Mahrez & Islam Slimani return to Leicester & Adlene Guedioura returns to Watford. Didier Ndong returns to Sunderland as Gabon are out.
Bakory Sakho may return to Crystal Palce as Mali are on the brink of going out tomorrow. Did I miss anyone?

Re: AFCON 2017
thanks for the update and the FPL impact details, good post!
will Bailly make Jones lesse secure as a starter?
on ACoN terms, Ivory Coast out behind Congo and Morocco, isn't it a bit of a surprise, or am I just stuck in the past?

They were beyond drab - maybe having all the players from here doesn't help?MoSe wrote: on ACoN terms, Ivory Coast out behind Congo and Morocco, isn't it a bit of a surprise, or am I just stuck in the past?
Last night they conceded a special goal and created zip, so 0-0 would have been reasonable.

Re: AFCON 2017
Apparently Donald Trump said the Ivory Coast were great, really great, and would win the tournament. In fact, in a couple of weeks time he, or his press secretary will announce that the Ivory Coast actually won the tournament, despite lots of illegal goals being scored agsinst them....

Senegal knocked out tonight. Not a good day for Mané. Now the question is, will he be back for the Chelsea game?

Must be some sort of record for Mane. Knocked out of 2 cups on 1 day. 3 cups in 4 days.
