Has anyone ever made a last-minute change and ended up with no regrets?

Post by Omarz14 »

Has anyone ever made a last-minute change and ended up with no regrets?

I am a failure in this!

My history:

-Took captaincy off Van Persie only minutes before he scored a hat-trick for Arsenal against Blackburn a few seasons ago.

-Took captaincy off Aguero minutes before he scored 4 goals vs. Spurs the season before last.

and the latest...took captaincy off Aguero and gave it to Hazard last weekend.

So you don't regret any of those?

Well you could stop taking the captaincy off Aguero; that would remove 66.6% of your problem

The problem is that...this is just part of the story :D

So I guess its much less than 66.6% !

Last minute changes are a cursed thing. They punish you severely when you follow through, but when you refrain from doing them the idea actually works.
I think that the thing about a last minute change is that you are much more likely to be making a decision out of anxiety instead of reason, so it's no surprise they backfire so often.

The only one that still haunts me was (it appears from looking things up) from 2002.

Midweek game so 7:30 deadline for a 7:45 kick-off - a good number of work league members going for beers and watch the game.

Hurry up ... c'mon ... yeah yeah just a minute just making a transfer ...Ole Gunner Solskjaer  someone I can't remember ... the trauma is too much :)

BBC game report

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored a hat-trick as Manchester United bounced back emphatically from consecutive defeats against Liverpool and Middlesbrough"

:(

edit to add - that was probably in the CYKI days (maybe?)

Does it have to be an FPL based last minute change? Because I have a story about two girls in a bar that went wrong...

Seem to remember switching my captain to Sanchez a couple of minutes before the deadline and he got a hat-trick. I think I'd had it on Aguero or Kane.

I swapped from Kone to Souare last minute. Souare hasn't done anything but he's not a disaster. Small victory but one nonetheless. Also resisted the urge to got with Terry. Seems solid at this point.

If we're talking literal last-minute changes, then the final GW of last season burns brightly in my mind.

The deadline was 2:00pm. At 1:59pm, with Payet in my squad and rumours abound that he was injured and wouldn't play, I did Payet  Mané. Turned out that Payet was indeed injured, and if I hadn't made the switch I would only have had 10 players. The transfer cost me 4 points, but Mané's goal and assist gave him 13 points, and gave me a net profit of 9 points.

I won my mini-league by 3 points. 8-)

No, no I have not. Ibra  Vardy was not exactly inspired.

Captain switches were the bane of my last season. Usually VC got the pts and C floundered. Aguero performing is making life much easier this season.

I brought Arnie in for a hit last season. He scored a brace TOOT.
Never mind Antonio scored as well, so I ended up neutral (11 vs 15-4)

Yeah my VC is always the star of the team!

About Aguero. Let's just hope he keeps it going. Coz at 13.0, he destroys the rest of the team.

I was being closely chased In the final gameweek of last season and desperately trying to hold onto my position.

It was extremely difficult to resist the safer temptations of Aguero, Sanchez and Hazard as my Captain pick.

At the last minute I went maverick with (G)iroud vs. Villa.. I was all on my ownsome there, balls to the wind

It was an auspicious day and a fine end to the season - I was kindly rewarded with a 34 point hattie in their 4-0 win

:D 8-) :D

Triple captained Aguero vs Newcastle when he scored 5 goals, last minute.

I was going to save it for the double weeks and thought "eff it, Newcastle are rubbish, he's bound to at least get a hattrick or at worst 2 goals and an assist"

Boom, I was a happy chappy.

GW20
01 Jan: Sigurdsson(cry) Phillips(HUL)
then at last minute
02 Jan: Costa(tot) Agüero(BUR) -4p hit
and switched Captain from Sánchez to Kun

after Kun started from bench, it looked likely to end in a disaster

Kun subbed on at HT, scored and ended with 7p
Phillips got 9p
Sánchez got 7p, not outscoring Kun Captaincy
Siggy got 7p, which meant my initial FT gained me 2p anyway (had hoped a bit more)

finally, Costa blanked for 2p :o

considering the band switch, the balance for my last minute move was
2*Sánchez+Costa  Sánchez+2*Kun-4p hit
14p+2p  7p+14p-4p
16p  17p

from potential disaster to net +1p, including the hit 8-)
no regrets!

I actually can't remember a single one that went wrong, but that's probably because I rarely ever do it so the sample size is small.
