FPL Official Player Stats Pages - OPTA stats included

Post by Stemania »

By the looks of it we'll now have a separate stats page for every player complete with a limited number of historical OPTA stats (under 'Premier League'/'Players').

Here for example is Charlie Adam's:

http://www.premierleague.com/players/40 ... Adam/stats

And here's Abou Diaby's from 2012:

http://www.premierleague.com/players/28 ... tats?se=21.

Well, well, well. Pages available for Team stats too and a snazzy head-to-head feature http://www.premierleague.com/stats/head-to-head:

Here's the list of stats now available across the site: http://www.premierleague.com/stats/clarification

well well well...
some peculiar categories

Accurate long balls
Backwards passes
Last man tackles
Headed clearances
Clearances off line
Aerial battles won/lost
GK Punches / High claims / Catches

what I find odd:
both PLAYER and TEAM
Goals from penalty / freekick / header
PLAYER only: Goals with right/left foot
TEAM only: Goals from inside/outside box, from counter attack
as they went that far, I'd have liked to see i/o box for individual players too

quirk:
to get the list for a stat, you first have to get to the summary page ("top")
http://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players
THEN you have to "View Full List" under the Top 10 for any category
say, Goals http://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/ ... o=-1?se=42
THEN you can look for any stat Full List, picking from a drop-down at page top,
including a couple not shown in the Top Page, like Touches and BCM
http://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/ ... o=-1&po=-1

interesting that you can filter by Season, Club, Nationality and Position

worth noting maybe

that these are PL stats, not FPL stats
hopefully that won't be "in place" of the FPL specific stat pages we had, where we could see for instance:
SelectedBy%, FPL Score (Overall and Round), Transfers In/Out (Overall and Round), Price Rise/Fall, etc...
_____________
OH, and I was forgetting:

Successful 50/50s

what's a 50/50 ???????? :? :?:

lost in translation, we don't have such stat in Italy
something that can go bot ways with equal chance, of course, but what?
I'd have thought tackles, or even better "Duels", but they have a separate stat already
or when the ref drops the ball into play, but that's a hockey stat, in football they're never actually contested, not stat-worthy for sure...

googlin it I found
- fundraising raffles
- and this http://timetodraft.com/blogs-posts/114- ... ournaments
50/50, 50-50, 2X MULTIPLIER, Double or Nothing, Fifty-Fifty – they are all names of a single tournament type, where a player can double the buy-in when achieving the top half of the final table on total points. 50/50 is a totally unique experience comparing to classic fantasy-tournaments, which means you’ve got to clearly realize the difference and build your team based on it. The key factors we are going to talk about mainly refer to football fantasy-tournaments, but the idea is the same in all sports.

In classic tournaments with progressive prize pool distribution the main idea while drafting a team is to finish first. In Double or Nothing tournaments, however, winning is not important. The crucial thing is to finish in the top half of the managers’ table, which gives us the key hint for efficient 50/50 game – there is no point trying to be the best, what really matters is simply being one of them.
that is, a money league where if you get in the top half you double your bet, if you get in the bottom half you lose it
interesting concept for a sidegame ;) but that's hardly related with a player defence stats

BTW that's not a stat you can get the Full List for
and it's something rarely occurring, for instance JT only had 2 in last season 24 appearances, and 23 in his career 483 apps,
that's one "succesful 50/50" every 21 games....

speaking of Appearances, you can get the Full List from the Dashboard or the Records page, but not selecting it from the drop-down list

Maybe they're turning the game into the 2014 World Cup McDonalds game with more points for clearances and tackles than you get for goals and clean sheets. I hope not.

I think that would be too difficult and too boring for casuals, so I think it's unlikely.

oh, that would puzzle those who'd want to understand, but casuals won't even bother to be concerned: they're casuals, do you think they worry how their score gets formed? ;)

Shocked they didn't include chances created but did include big chances created, something even FFS hasn't provided until now. What the Hell is that? I'm going to have to update my damn scripts to pull from two sources now. For the love of shite.

Is there an easier way to pull stats than reading the source code and parsing? Out of interest

Not that I know of unless you partner directly with Opta. I am not aware of any site that provides an API or other mechanism to easily pull Opta data. I am fortunate to have a development background to manage the fun of parsing raw HTML as that is no one's idea of a good time!

I am now right there with you, spent the last few days parsing the prem/All things FPL and BBC match reports with Python. Hopefully will be able to do a rudimentary xG calculation over the season
