I don't know about that. His position in the team is on the line and he knows it. That could go either way.

I still can't decide between Kane and Aguero (c).

Could go either way, just think keepers usually thrive on confidence and his must be near rock-bottom, I think he could look nervous and edgy but an early good save would settle him.

Yeah, really don't get what Pardew is trying to achieve by publicly belittling him. Surely: "he's a top keeper who's gained us more points than he's lost us, I have no doubt in him" is the way to go.

Agreed but that's Pardew for you.

While that's probably generally a good approach, some players will react differently; I think we'd all agree that different motivational approaches work better with different people. There is also the question of whether Hennessey may be dropped, if Pardew is seriously considering dropping him, it may be worse if he gives him a seemingly unconditional backing and then drops him after an error.

That was the key thing to come out of today's pressers, for me. Sounds as if he should play, but with reduced minutes presumably now a possibility, I think it's Alli's turn to get a starting berth..

Steve McClaren says Newcastle are struggling to field a back four ahead of their game against Watford:

“Our team will change because we’ve got new signings, and we’ve got injuries.

“Dummett I think might be struggling.

“Jack Colback also is tight in his hamstring – we don’t know whether to take a risk on him.

"At the present moment out there in training we're struggling to get any defenders in

"We're struggling to get a back four out

"We'll have to wait and see. It'll have to be the last minute on Saturday to know who's fit and what the team will be

Might be good for Ighalo then?

In other quotes McClaren has apparently ruled Colback and Dummett out

“We’ve only got four fit defenders, the majority of them centre-backs. Mbabu, Dummett and Colback are all out.

“Emmanuel Rivière will be on the bench. There will be no Ivan Toney and no Siem de Jong."

Perhaps it'll be Mbemba LB with Lascelles CB (or just Lascelles LB). Either way, it appears we're down to LB choice number 5 with Dummett, Haidara, Mbabu and the coverer Colback all apparently out.

Excellent stuff! Thrilled we've got it over the line. He's a proper player who'll bring tons to the team.
So... a question to you both then. Can you shed any light on Neil's team selection? As an outsider I don't get the drift really.

For example, Redmond seems to me to be Norwich's most exciting player and one that could be doing really well in the PL. But he plays, then he's benched...
Another example is Mulumbu, a player I rate quite highly. In my opinion he's the best CM in the Norwich squad. I know he was injured at the start of the season but why isn't he starting now?

I thought of Neil as a pragmatic manager. But I'm beginning to think his inexperience is showing and that he doesn't have a clear direction for the team. Is that fair?
The thing with Redmond is that he can have one decent game then a few stinkers. He's not the complete 'electric, tricky winger' people seem to think he is when looking from the outside in. He is often hesitant to take on his man and final ball isn't particularly great. I think Alex would prefer to use him from the bench to try and have an impact if a game's going away from us.

Mulumbu is a great player but i'd argue Alex Tettey is our best CM who plays that screening role very well. He is more mobile, breaks play up effectively, has a shot on him and can (more often than not) pass us out of trouble. I think it's simply a case of Neil preferring him to Mulumbu.

Shawcross out for 3-4 weeks.
Not widely owned but can't be good for the other Stoke defenders that are (Johnson, Wollscheid & Butland), given their change in fortunes when he was fit.

"Thankfully Ryan's injury isn't a recurrence of the problem he had last year, but unfortunately he has some muscle damage and at the moment it looks likely that he will be out for three to four weeks, which is hard for us to take," Hughes said.

Jack Wilshere has suffered another setback in training, which could rule him out for the season. [Various] #afc

Thomas Rosicky will be out for 6 weeks with a thigh injury, Koscielny also a slight doubt.

I think he stands a good chance for West Brom in gwk26, if no news on whether he made training then i'll possibly bench him as have a strong midfield five. Get Vardy for 27.

The way he's been sold it may be worth putting him in the eleven instead of Mahrez or Payet (prob Mahrez) as they'll autosub anyway and could be a big differential.

Later ... Martinez: "We'll assess Romelu Lukaku after training today. He's moving a bit better. He hates missing games. I'm hopeful of him being fit".

Stoke without Shawcross and Wollschied a major doubt probably out haven't been defensively sound recently and Bardsley and Muniesa deputising...

I think that sounds promising personally. It was only a knee in the back, so if it has loosened up enough to do some light training then another 24 hours will do him the world of good. Bit of deep-tissue massage and go and earn your money big man!

Conclusion: I think he'll play

Have this horrible feeling that Lukaku may start tomorrow and punish those of us that have sold him. Reckon Stoke will improve a lot going forward, but wouldn't be surprised to see a high scoring game given their defensive issues.

**

Also, is their no Spurs presser today? Would like some definitive Alli news, as I have a bit of a benching dilemma so any uncertainty would help make the decision a bit easier!
