How much are you spending on your defence and keepers?

Normally I like to start with two 4.0 defenders, however with the lack of options in the price bracket it appears I will be spending an extra 1M in my defence. I am also curios to see if anyone is starting with a 4.0 defender regardless? Are people generally paying 4.5 each for two defenders that will be on the bench?

I'm starting with 1 4.0. no point in paying 4.5 for a player I won't use.

I like all my bench to play. I suppose it doesn't really matter too much early in the season when there is less fixture congestion, could probably get away with just two playing subs for a bit . Maybe it would be a good strategy to start with one 4.0 with the idea of getting a third playing sub later in the season.

I ended up spending 32M on my defensive setup, as I'm playing 3 at the back.

I have a home/away rotation for my two 4.5M DEF which will be used to complete my 3 man defence; effectively killing the need for a 5th defender.

Definitely starting with a 4.0, as Gallus - no point spending on a defender you're very unlikely to use. The wc changes this time will make early wcs after three or four gwks relatively common and hence this won't be an unusual tactic.

Probably spending between 32 and 33m on keepers and defence.

Could yet downgrade one of the 4.5m options to a 4m option if I decide I want one of the 9m midfielders.

It looks like a lot of people are starting without Ivanovic. Cant decide whether to start Ivanovic or save 1m and have Koscielny. I am worried about Koscielny's reliability!

that's 29.5!

but that was just 1st draft 2 weeks ago to see who I could accommodate upfront
tentatively:
Costa Rooney Kane (31.0)
Haz-Silva-Fab (30.5) complemented by Fletcher-Wanyama (two 4.5, for a total of 39.5 mids)

that was just to test what could be done bareboning the backline and 5th mid:
34.0 base price, leaving 66.0m for the upfront 7
(or 61.5 for 6 if you get a 4.5m 4th mid too, rotating the likes of Fletcher/Wanyama, eurgh)

of course there's a lot to tinker (Costa's hammy news, Benteke and/or mid-priced 3rd fwd, Theo/Sterling for Fab, or 8.5 mids...),
allowing for at least 1.5m more in the back, but I haven't come around to it yet

time's ticking... 9 days 4 hrs to deadline...

It's definitely 32.5!

Koscielny was one of the first names on my team sheet. Nailed on starter, bonus point magnet, and a significant attacking threat. Add in that you now have Cech commanding what was already a half decent defence last season, coupled with their decent fixtures, and there are few doubts for me.

I've been toying with the idea of starting with a very cheap defence and reassess whenever I play my WC. I can go as low as 31.0m or 30.5m (depending on the Hennessey/McCarthy situation) with a decent 5 way rotation at the back. I probably won't go through with it though

It's an option I've considered too, but ended up opting against. The main reason being I am a very indecisive person; the benching dilemma and likely frustration of benching points each week would be huge!

I just think it's asking too much even with a reasonable rotation of three from five 4.5's. You will probably just end up mostly rotating two pointers.

I think at least one of Koscielny, Azpi, or Shaw/Darmian has to be a constant really even in a budget defence.

Picking Shaw/Darmian and a 4.0m instead of two 4.5s costs just 0.5m more, that's an interesting option too especially given Man Utd's fixtures

Help! I have done it again.

I promised my self I wouldn't neglect my defence as last season it got me into all sorts of problems. Somehow I have now managed up with 32M defence, it was 34M but the closer I get to the deadline the smaller it gets. Old habits die hard!

33.5m. Only plan on ever playing 3 defenders, so the 4.0 is never going to play. Will hopefully find a nailed on option at some point.
