Re: The 4.5 mill. defender thread 15/16
Yep, it's Davies v Rose. Davies is also well on my radar as a slightly cheaper route into my near ideal defence. The rotation risk is a factor, but he is looking increasingly first choice, and seeing Rose start again on Thursday in Europe would go some way to allaying our worries for the near future, at least.

Anyone considered Brendan Galloway? Seems to have ousted Oviedo.

Rose is playing for Spurs tonight. Ben Davies is looking increasingly good value as a seemingly first choice player in a solid defence, at just 4.5m.

Davies is not even in the matchday squad. A real night off.

As long as you're happy in not getting many bonus or attacking returns, that is. I still think Dier is the one to go in Spurs defence, but Davies is a decent 4.5 pick, a safe one though probably not the best.Notned wrote:Rose is playing for Spurs tonight. I may hop on Davies after the International break and get rid of Richards; Villa's fixtures GW 9-16 are pretty bad with likely only 1 clean sheet at home to Watford in those 8 games.
Off topic but I noticed both Davies and Neil Taylor play for Wales, does one play left-back and the other left-wing?

Davies plays LCB in a back three, with Taylor LWB.timao1 wrote: Off topic but I noticed both Davies and Neil Taylor play for Wales, does one play left-back and the other left-wing?

I agree. I think 2 city defenders is a bit long so one of them will become Dier soon. Wait one see for me on which one gets the shove... If I needed the cash though, Davies looks a good option.Le Red wrote:As long as you're happy in not getting many bonus or attacking returns, that is. This season looks good for spending a little extra in defence. Kolarov+Dier sounds much better than Sagna+Davies, for example.Bertie64 wrote:I agree. Ward is due back soon and If I remember correctly he seemed to be getting some attacking returns. Anyone considering him? Or is Souare/Hangeland the way to go in the Palace defence? Thoughts?

I also thought about Hangeland. A few years back he was a regular goal scorer for Fulham. However, I am not so sure whether he will remain a starter throughout the season. Certainly interested in hearing the experts' thoughts on this.profart wrote:Ward is due back soon and If I remember correctly he seemed to be getting some attacking returns. Anyone considering him? Other than that I also kept Ward throughout the injury period.

Kelly is pretty safe in that spot for Palace, can't recall Ward's spot (think it's Hangeland)
Cameron at Stoke? Not much threat but they may buck up their ideas

In the hunt for a potential replacement for Huth or Targett but must admit that there isn't anyone in this price range that is really standing up and shouting 'pick me'. I'd like the look of Davies if Rose wasn't waiting in the wings.

Re: The 4.5 mill. defender thread 15/16
Call me crazy, but if the Allardyce rumours have any substance, I would be genuinely tempted by a cut price Kaboul/O'Shea/Coates as a back up defender.
And no, this isn't a joke

Of let the dust settle and see who the first choice back four is but they'd be on my potential list.

I meant to say "IS" Kelly safe for that spot
Delaney also to come back in? Too many risks.

Ward, Dann, Delaney, Souare
So both Kelly & Hangeland's days are numbered.

Re: The 4.5 mill. defender thread 15/16
None of them seem to be worth it at the moment. Clean sheets are very hard to come by.
I need to replace a Muniesa but can't see any value at 4.5 so I'll probably get a 5.0.

If you really need a 4.5mil defender, I think the Watford lads are great value. They are obviously set up to play defensively, and are backed up by the league's most in form keeper.SFC_Fan wrote:None of them seem to be worth it at the moment. Clean sheets are very hard to come by.

I currently have francis. Is anyone considering swapping him out, his fixtures look mixed at best?

Re: The 4.5 mill. defender thread 15/16
The Watford defenders are certainly worth considering. The question for me is to whether they can continue their current good record or will teams begin to find them out.
If you are like me and use a 4.5 defender as your 3rd sub every week, it isn't really worth agonizing too much over who you choose - they will all give you 1 or 2 points most weeks. The only 'first choice' 4,5m defenders who have managed 2 or more clean sheets so far are from Watford and Crystal Palace. I chose Russell Martin, partly because he provides some goal threat, he seems to be pretty much nailed on and I'm unlikely to lose money on him (bought him in on wildcard just before a price rise).

Re: The 4.5 mill. defender thread 15/16
He'll probably be next to go for me (after Gomez) but I'm happy to hold for now or delay it if anything else arises. His fixtures do turn, but at the same time aren't quite as bad as I thought at first glance with a couple of decent-ish home games mixed in.pdhmobile wrote:I currently have francis. Looking at Gabriel/Dawson for Gomez now, and then if no other pressing issues, one of Davies/Souare/Ward for Francis over the next couple of weeks or so.

I have kolarov and evans as the main starters, rotating francis and huth( i need to change both of these really) and i taylor as my never playing 4.0 defender.Aldershot Rejects wrote:The Watford defenders are certainly worth considering.
