Re: The 4.5 mill. defender thread 15/16
Shall we revive this thread now that so many are wildcarding? I hit the panic button last night, had too many potential price drops.
How long do people think that Galloway, Yoshida and Gomez will get starts?

Re: The 4.5 mill. defender thread 15/16
I had Richards in a very early draft, but due to general leakiness in pre-season & Sherwood being Sherwood, I backed away. 1-0 and 0-1 looks pretty encouraging though. Was Villa solid (or lucky) or Bournemouth/Utd just dire?
Galloway has abhorrent fixtures and plays for Roberto Martínez. One clean sheet does not change that. Might be interesting from November onwards though.

Re: The 4.5 mill. defender thread 15/16
Well it's 12-16 weeks out for Baines, Galloway may however lose his place when Oviedo is fully fit.
As Oviedo is made of glass however that might be a while. He was just getting back to full fitness but missed out at the weekend due to picking up an injury again (perhaps while sat in the team bus minding his own business!).
Galloway is playing well however he is naturally a centre back and doesn't offer anything like what Baines, Coleman or Oviedo can offer going up the flanks.
As has been said Everton's fixtures don't make him a good proposition however he will likely play for a while.

Yeah you're right the fixtures are terrible but they did just keep a clean sheet away at Southampton. Historically I always love a cheap route into good defences.

First game Bournemouth should have scored but just werent clinical
I guess you could say there were solid against United... one deflected goal and kept Rooney to one touch in the box but as discussed elsewhere on here United have been poor attacking
Personally I still wouldnt touch a Villa player particularly defence with a barge pole

On my WC and looking at Richards, Gomez and Galloway. Not sure if Yoshida will lose his place to Caulker, he was only missing through illness.
Coates may drop to 4.4 this week if you think Sunderland will tighten up at the back or need to squeeze that extra 0.1

Re: The 4.5 mill. defender thread 15/16
I don't think too many of the 4.5s have covered themselves in glory! I'd really look to a 5.0 with a 4.5 as emergency bench cover.
If I had to pick a 4.5 right now though, a stoke player would probably be high on the list, so Muniesa would likely be my choice.
The 4.0s will soon be a write off, but you still have to ask what looks stronger 4.5, 4.5, 4.5 or 5.0, 4.5, 4.0 for the same money?

The thing is Mav, I don't think too many of the 5.0s have covered themselves in glory either. I'm struggling to see anyone who's worth the extra 0.5m over the likes of Francis, Gomez, Huth, Muniesa, Richards, Whittaker.Mav3rick wrote:I don't think too many of the 4.5s have covered themselves in glory! Alderweireld is a popular pick but that Spurs defence still doesn't look solid. Van Aanholt has been a disaster so far, although he could re-emerge as a good option if his price drops a bit and Sunderland can sort their defence out. Southampton's defence is clearly missing the protection of Schneiderlin, and I'm not sure Janmaat is worth the investment - he likes his assists, but he also likes his red cards!
I suppose Swansea, West Brom and West Ham provide the most attractive £5.0m options, but again, I'm not sure they're worth the extra investment over some of the 4.5s listed above.
If the second option leaves you with only two playing defenders, then I'd definitely say that the first option looks stronger. You even said as much yourself: "The 4.0s will soon be a write off."Mav3rick wrote:The 4.0s will soon be a write off, but you still have to ask what looks stronger 4.5, 4.5, 4.5 or 5.0, 4.5, 4.0 for the same money?

Re: The 4.5 mill. defender thread 15/16
As you say, it's the likes of a WBA defender, maybe a Swansea defender, even Cedric still has good potential. They look far, far stronger than any 4.5 option and I'd just play a Tony Pulis defender every week, with occasional rotation from the 4.5 for really awkward fixtures or bans/minor injuries etc.Pirlo's Beard wrote:The thing is Mav, I don't think too many of the 5.0s have covered themselves in glory either. Have
Darmian 5.5
Clyne 5.5
Gomez 4.5
Muniesa 4.5
Oxford 4.0
Oxford may be losing his place, but as a base price enabler I don't mind that. The 4 remaining defenders look decent enough picks to me and leave plenty of cash to splash upfront (not as good as last season though when there were at least three playing 4.0m defenders from the off).

Re: The 4.5 mill. defender thread 15/16
Francis from B'mouth is about to drop by 0.1 soon, so there'll be possibility of having cheap 4.4 playing defender.
Heard he played well against Villa. How about tonight?

Sunderland defenders is not play well, maybe because O'Shea hasn't play from begining. Now price already drop 0.1

I'm thinking of downgrading Merte to Muniesa to enable funds for a Giroud/Depay to Sanchez/Benteke switch down the line

Is Jonas Olsson now nailed for West Brom?
If yes, then 4.5m West Brom defender seems very tempting for me.

Why hasn't Francis (AFCB) dropped? I was hoping to w/c him in as a 4.4

Ward is nailed on
edit: Fazio is also having a medical at WBA according to Sky
No he's not. Chester, McAuley, Lescott and Olsson are all CB candidates and I don't think Olsson is the best of this lotFinisher1 wrote:Is Jonas Olsson now nailed for West Brom?

Re: The 4.5 mill. defender thread 15/16
Price changes are hard to predict at this stage in the season so the sites are less accurate than they might otherwise be. It's still possible he will drop tonight. If you just need a 4.4 body to fill your wildcard team, then Coates dropped last night.flare2 wrote:Why hasn't Francis (AFCB) dropped? I was hoping to w/c him in as a 4.4

I believe Ward is first choice, however Palace aren't the defensive force that they once were so 4.5 seems a fair price.flare2 wrote:Also, is Ward (CRY) only playing as someone else is injured?

Re: The 4.5 mill. defender thread 15/16
Coates is intriguing at that price and I am tempted to go for him to free up the 0.1m I am short of for my ideal WC team (typical ) but I am concerned about the changes in defence that Advocaat has hinted at.Mav3rick wrote:Price changes are hard to predict at this stage in the season so the sites are less accurate than they might otherwise be. Re: The 4.5 mill. defender thread 15/16
Any GW3 wildcarder here who has purchased Gomez at 4.5m?
I have him at 4.5m, and if he rises tonight he would be 4.7m, meaning I could bank 0.1m by selling him for 4.5m defender.
Should I do this? I'm afraid he is not nailed. Gomez has played decently, but Moreno made a cameo already in GW2 and offers more attacking threat.

Re: The 4.5 mill. defender thread 15/16
For me it depends on the rest of your defence. If he's part of a rotation then you may as well go with him as you'd expect to have to make a transfer at some stage anyway (to maintain the rotation) and if he stays in the team then great.Finisher1 wrote:Any GW3 wildcarder here who purchased Gomez at 4.5m?

However, if you need a 4.5 as an almost perma-benched-except-in-emergencies situation (like I do) then I'd bank the cash and pick someone fully nailed on.

Moreno's cameo wasn't at the expense of Gomez, it was at the expense of Coutinho (I think) to tighten up and protect a lead. I had him at 4.5 and Im holding fire until Moreno gets a start over him at LB.

Re: The 4.5 mill. defender thread 15/16
I picked him up at 4.60 so I need another 2 rises to get to the 0.1 increase which could happen by next week as Liverpool have West Ham at home. However, using a transfer so soon after WC all to gain £0.1m doesn't seem the best strategy so I will probably keep im in and sweat it out.Beerfuelledman wrote:Moreno's cameo wasn't at the expense of Gomez, it was at the expense of Coutinho (I think) to tighten up and protect a lead. Two Clean sheets out of two is a good start, if he gets torn apart at Arsenal I would fear for his place and that's the risk. Even more so if Moreno comes in for the WHU game and has a good game.
