Encouragement for non wildcarders

Post by Mav3rick »

At the moment it looks like every man and his dog has a wildcard team full of 10 doublers.

That's a scary proposition when most of the rest of us sit here with 6/7 doublers and perhaps a -4 to our name, but remember that only 20% of teams have wildcards left so you can still get a green arrow by finishing in the top third of the remaining 80% of the teams around you.

We get a false impression of the quality of teams by seeing all the action in the DGW threads, so don't take unnecessary hits to match the wildcarders, think of your real competition and play to beat them.

Most importantly of all don't compromise your run in because of trying to keepup with the wildcarders.

Remember your training and you will come back alive.

I'm not worrying too much, as you say most don't have a wildcard, and even those that do plenty of them will be producing less thought out teams than some of the ones we see on here and not thinking out their future transfers. I've got 5 doublers no hits, but with so many non wild carders taking overly aggressive hits, I think I stand a chance of a green arrow anyway.

And you can mess stuff up with a WC too. Normally I'd be cautious with the WC and have a decent stab at GW34 whilst ideally preparing for GW35-38; Instead I'm going for 10 doublers + Aguero out of lingering anger at not using the WC earlier in the season. (which involves dumping Silva for Fabregas which will obviously backfire biblically)

It's not as if Liverpool or Leicester are anywhere near sure things either. The Benteke/Austin jackpots from DGW31 may have given everyone slightly exaggerated expectations.

Yes the last dgw has completely distorted people's expectations, it wasn't the norm and there are big weeks to follow which have to be considered

Thanks Mav3rick, wise words and I agree that the last DGW has massively affected how people are playing this one. I got lucky last DGW so perhaps don't feel the need to chase points this time and settled for 6 DGWs with a 4 point hit. Apart from my goalkeeper, I can't see how any further hits will improve my side and I'm not sure I want to go into the week on -8 so I'm leaving that. I've allowed myself one punt with Vardy (but that also meant that I could field 11 last week), but nothing else tempts me. Will be interested to see the analysis of the top 10k this week.

Expecting a red arrow, just hope that it is a little one. A big haul from Silva would make my week :)

I pretty much agree, and it's reassuring to see your wise words Maverick. It hasn't stopped me taking a couple of hits to have the team I planned a couple of weeks ago... which was somewhat bu99ered up by a failed Austin->Remy->Murray gamble. In my mind that's where the points hits were incurred

It can be an annoying time of the season as people take risks and some will pay off big time. Last season I was top 1k up to the last gameweek. Keeping faith in players like Aguero killed me while others gambled and hit big scores and pushed me out of the top 1000 in the last week.

This week feels similar where lots of people are taking lots of risks to go big in the last few weeks.

So deadline passed, I don't have a wildcard anymore. Am I allowed to join non-wildcarders party?

Yes, you can

Now that you don't have a wildcard though, what will you find to talk about?

Can't believe finisher1 has wasted his wildcard. ;)

Will be really interesting to see the top 10k stats this week in terms of ownership, benching, etc.

Well, the Leicester players certainly did better than I expected.

Big swing from that missed penalty though, both in real life and in FPL. Such fine margins in this game.

That penalty miss was worth 15 points for anyone with the popular Kasper, Morgan, Cambiasso combo.
