I look at Charlie Austin and it reminds me of Rickie Lambert in 2012/13 (in particular).

A cheap "old fashioned" striker playing for an unfashionable team; I was convinced his run of goals would stop and there were better forward choices from the bigger teams. Lambert ended up with 187 points and was still only valued at £6.8m at the end of the season.

I feel I have learned from that bias I had back then and now I have no hesitation in bringing in someone of a similar ilk from a smaller side who is banging the goals.

Hate to revert to a pub talk type comment but you're spot on.

Kudos to GunnerHans for earmarking him in pre-season.

I'd wrongly dismissed him and this is reflected in my league ranking. His hat-trick cost me 2k in league ranking and possibly a chance of winning my cash league.

Just wrote a short script to flag players based on how much beard they (don't) have and my team's lit up like a Christmas tree! It's hardly a wonder I've been in such poor form lately!

Ha you might be on to something here.

Beards = goals

As any owner of Tim Howard can testify.

I think calling a Premiership football who is the 3rd highest scorer in the league a 'pub standard player' is both a biased opinion and an insult

During his Sky analysis, Gary Neville just described his headed goal from the weekend as a goal only a pub league striker would be proud of.

However, he then went on to say that it all counts the same towards his fpl tally and bonus points.

It's a normal post.
Thanks for the clarification
What is wrong with the post? Michael Carrick is an outstanding footballer, if it is a stupid post, then you must think that the greatest manager of all time is stupid, as he has very timely just come out and said that Michael Carrick is the best English footballer, and I firmly agree :D

He also said that Phil Jones was the best footballer at the club or something like that, might have even compared him to Giggs

Signed Djemba Djemba, Bebe, Kleberson, paid a small fortune for Nani and Anderson aswel, never gets it wrong I guess.

The state of English football is such that you can actually make an argument for it with a straight face, though.

we have this snobbishness in the English game about players

For some reason it's seen as bad to come from the lower leagues and be successful. What's wrong with that. That's someone making their way to top despite the 'system'

Ian Wright came up that way, for starters

Unless someone has been through some top league academy they are now deemed a 'pub player'. There's nothing wrong with going through lower leagues and making your way to the top league. If you keep scoring then you keep scoring, what's the big deal

Oh no, someone didn't go through the academies ... what a fraud! No, more shame the academies for missing out on some of those players. Also makes you wonder how many other players slipped through the net as well really

If he was Brazilian he'd be in their squad ahead of Fred. That's got to be worth something, right?

My boss is a QPR fan and he was warning me about Austin before the season started. I rubbed his face in it early on but it seems he's getting the last laugh. I think those who paid attention to QPR last season are not too surprised by whats happening while those of us with premier league blinkers on (like me) have been waiting for us lucky streak to end, so kudos to them in the know!

Unbelievable that people with Charlie Austin starting are awarded 7 points for that shambolic display.

Offered nothing. Even when up against 10 men.

How on earth does scoring a penalty earn so much BPS....

Ridiculously pub standard, and rewarded 3 baps on top. So much injustice.

No one in my starting XI is pub standard. They all play for a top-half table team unlike Quite Possibly Relegated.

Bit ridulous though isn't it, Austin, Siggy and Ings ahead of Sanchez.

While Siggy has played in the PL for the past four odd years.

So if a team scores bags of goals by a mixture of players, they don't make the list thinking Fab and Hazard here.

Also Costa and Pelle.

It's just a list of the players who have scored or assisted the largest percentage of their teams total goals this season, to illustrate how key Austin has been for QPR.
