FPL cup

Post by Mo Bot »

The top 2097152 this GW will qualify for next week. Based on the 'how are you doing this GW' scores, a few high profile guys will miss out on the chance of being thrashed by a dead team.

The first round of the cup will be Gameweek 18.

Qualifying
The top 2,097,152 scorers in Gameweek 17 will enter the first round. If there are more than 2,097,152 qualifiers then there will be a random draw amongst the lowest scorers to see who qualifies.

How it works
Each qualifying team will be randomly drawn against another in the first round. The winner (the team with the highest gameweek score minus any transfer points), will progress to the second round and another random draw, the losers are out! This process continues until the final Gameweek when the two remaining teams contest the cup final.

If a cup match is drawn, then the following tie-breaks will be applied until a winner is found:

Most goals scored in the Gameweek
Fewest goals conceded in the Gameweek
Virtual coin toss

Just to be sure I'm not bounced back by the lamguage barrier:

Top 2m scorers "IN" GW17 means

top 2m in *Gameweek* ranking,

NOT the top 2m scores in *Overall* ranking *after* gw17...

Correct?

I imagine the reason for that is to give teams who started a couple of Gameweeks late a decent chance for Cup entry?

Still a bit random though.

The lamguage barrier is fine  yes, the top 2.1 million scores for this individual GW qualify so you could be ranked #1 overall and not qualify in theory.

[Quickly checks if 2097152 is a power of 2.]

Correct me if I'm wrong, and being a silly noobie, but doesn't the cup work on a head to head basis where the loser of each head to head goes out?

Therefore complaining that you will be out of the cup because of a low game week score, or saying that the qualification is flawed because of this, seems a bit strange to me as that is the case all the way through the competition; that is a low game week score can often see you out the cup anyway, and that's exactly how the cup works.

Very true but to be robbed of the chance to be beaten by a dead team would be very frustrating.

The Cup is an added interest when the shot at overall glory is probably gone.
As a newbie, imagine the reaction of some members to be beaten by a dead team with Aguero (c) Austin (VC) and a West Ham defensive block

There is also a trend that the person who starts the Cup thread loses in the first riund 8-)

Up against a guy who's in the top 4k (of the Gameweek 13 league). He's still active and has a not completely horrible team - hope I get through this round as will be more amusing to lose to a truly horrendous dead team in a later week.

I am up against a guy that hasn't made a transfer since week 3 .

but has a team that got 79 points last week

So it's a dead team with no injuries and it actually looks fairly decent for a dead team. How embaressing for me If I lose

his team

lloris

debuchy baines invonivic vlaar

silva(c) yaya toure yeong shelvey barry

bony

bench cahill hernendez jovetic

Dead team at around 2 millionth...

Though has a few good players that I haven't that could cause a potential Cupset - Rooney (c), Yaya, Gerrard, Terry and Bony (vc)

Good team name - 2 Goals, 1 Cup

I would say it would be better to set the qualifying on overall rank rather than a GW rank. But that's probably just because I didn't qualify. I want in on the cup fun!

v a dead team but one that's in reasonable shape.
