Daniel Sturridge misses tonight's Premier League game against Newcastle United - the striker picked up a 'knock' against Blackburn.

Rodgers on Sturridge and Sakho fitness

Liverpool are hopeful Daniel Sturridge will return to action in this weekend's FA Cup semi-final but they'll be without the services of Mamadou Sakho, Brendan Rodgers confirmed on Monday night.

The pair both sustained injuries in last Wednesday's 1-0 win at Blackburn Rovers, with Sturridge picking up a knock to his hip while Sakho suffered a hamstring issue meaning both were ruled out against Newcastle.

Rodgers told his post-match press conference: "Daniel Sturridge was injured from the Blackburn game and he just wasn't right for tonight. It's his hip, but hopefully he'll be okay for the weekend.

"I'll probably know more in the week. He said he feels reasonably fine, so we're hoping by the middle of the week we'll have a good indication of where he's at."

Journalists asked the manager how long Sakho was likely to be sidelined for, to which he replied: "Three to four weeks, probably."

Would be a suprise if ROONEY recovers for this weekend.

The stats are dark and full of errors.

Not being a Leicester fan, how important is Vardy to the team? I mean, is his style of play unique and inspirational or are we talking about an easy swap? Also, have Leicester been switching to more defensive formations against the bigger teams - might he just decide to play a 4-5-1 to be both more numerous in the midfield and to give Vardy a rest. They seem to have a fair few decent midfielders, especially as my early season cheapie James has been out of the team the last few weeks.

Well I answered my own question a bit with a quick check on footballlineups.com. It seems that they went one up top for the visits of Liverpool, Man Utd and Man City and in those games Vardy was the striker.

Ulloa started the 5-3 game against Utd though. I recall Vardy played off the right wing in that game and caused havoc.

Any chance of Kane, Giroud, Fabregas, Hazard, Aguero, Coutinho or Henderson not starting? I could really use Albrighton off the bench.

Since we are taking wishes I would certainly like to jump on the Giroud or Sanchez late scratch "wish board". Giroud an illness and Sanchez something season ending please :D

Just exploring some potential fund freeing ideas... anyone any inkling how likely Andy Robertson or Alan Hutton are to start the next game, having both returned this weekend?

How about Billy Jones at Sunderland at £4.3m? Played 90 mins the last 4 games and an extra DGW player for GW37.

Surely PVA is better value?

Yeah, I already have PVA. By far the best option in the Sunderland back line in my opinion. The two I mentioned were more as alternatives to Vlaar and McShane, who are the two I am currently considering should I decide to go down that route.

Think I'll most likely go Vlaar, on reflection. Question marks over a Sherwood defence, but the fixtures are good and at least he's nailed on.

Hazard to miss the weekend?

The FWA @theofficialfwa · 10m 10 minutes ago
Footballer of the Year Eden Hazard has had emergency dental surgery and will be unable to collect his award in person tonight.

The FWA @theofficialfwa · 10m 10 minutes ago
Hazard tried to delay the surgery but had to have three wisdom teeth removed on Wednesday and is still in considerable pain.

The FWA @theofficialfwa · 6m 6 minutes ago
Hazard will almost certainly miss Chelsea’s final game against Sunderland - the first Premier League game he will have missed this season

So it turns out taking Hazard out before playing West Brom and Sunderland, was actually a genius move....

Very annoying. With Sanchez, Ramsey and Giroud at risk of rotation and Henderson and Kane out of form the last thing I needed was Hazard out.

The ones that took him out this week got extremely lucky!

Agree completely, I actually think most of the Hazard out transfers were a bad move based on the idea he would not play against WBA, and many talked of buying him back.

I now have Wollscheid not playing [plan was to ship this week], Hazard and Larsson flagged, and Sánchez and Giroud at risk of rotation. Did I mention I also don't want to have to play Bertrand (man).
