It all depends on whether RVP is going off to have this knee surgery. I wouldn't be surprised if Roonster ends up having to sit back a bit.sibrown4 wrote:How will the Falcao signing effect the dynamic here with Rooney Mata RVP?

Re: Juan Mata (Manchester United)
Wont LVG have to drop either Mata or Rooney now? I can't see how he'll play Mata, Di Maria, Rooney and Falcao in a team - not to mention RVP if he's also available.
My guess would be Mata will suffer the most now

I read somewhere yesterday (might have been the Guardian) that Man Utd want Rooney to become a midfield player now he has lost that yard of pace that made him such a good striker for them. He used to hate that but talk is that he is now happy to do so. If so then Mata is the loser in all this.

If RVP is out my guess is Falcao lone striker Roon just off him, then 5 and 3 behind, the 3 being Di Maria Herrera Mata
If RVP ok then who knows really, LVG seems to have a rotating door on philosophies so maybe he'll do the same with RVP and Falcao

Re: Juan Mata (Manchester United)
Won't they play a back 3...Herrera and Blind as centre midfielders, have 2 wing backs each side (Shaw, Valencia), then a front 3 which would be Di Maria in attacking midfield, Rooney and Falcao? So more like...
........... Jones, Evans, Rojo............
....Valencia, Herrera, Blind, Shaw..
...................Di Maria....................
...............Rooney, Falcao..............
You can't fit Mata, Di Maria, Rooney, Falcao and RVP in the same team

Re: Juan Mata (Manchester United)
I think ppl are reading this wrong.
RVP is injured, Falcao loan is partly a stopgap. We've gone from 4 forwards to 3, dropping the forwards who don't fit into a 1 up top alone system. We're going to run one up top as first choice, with the option to move to 2 strikers if we need to.
I see 4-5-1 with RVP/Falcao up top, The other positions quite fluid depending on personnel but 4 from Rooney/Mata/Di Maria/Herrera/Januzaj, then Blind/Fletcher holding midfield.
I see a bunch of lineups that would work in that formations. Rooney wide or up top, Di Maria central or wide right, Januzaj either wing. Key thing is I think it's clear we only plan on playing 1 striker, given the players we bought/sold.

Depends on whether RVP's having knee surgery.
Falcao would make a lot of sense then.
Wait and see is my approach.

So do I. I think Utd have managed to wangle a two for one deal on knee surgeries at their local Bupa and LvG cannot resist a bargain.magicdave wrote:I think ppl are reading this wrong.

Is crack the code accurate now?
It suggests he's going to drop, if so I need to get rid tonight.

I don't think it is accurate but going off the number of transfers out (highest for the round in terms of midfielders at 154602) I wouldn't be surprised.deafleopard wrote:Is crack the code accurate now?

The journos seem convinced that Mata will lose his place in the long term:

Re: Juan Mata (Manchester United)
That's all a bit worrying - I've left him in this weekend for his last chance against a side they should beat comfortably. But not much point in that happening if he's just sitting on the bench...Fuzz wrote:The journos seem convinced that Mata will lose his place in the long term:

Re: Juan Mata (Manchester United)
He dropped to 8.8 last night.
If he was a guaranteed starter i definitely would have kept him for a bit.
He may well start this game week and pay back the loyalty given by many but I just think Van Gaal will throw Falcao and Blind straight in and somethings gotta give.

Well Mata's starting, see: https://twitter.com/ManUtd/status/511152459796865024" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Man U team is De Gea, Rafael, Evans, Rojo, Blackett, Blind, Herrera, Mata, Di Maria, Rooney, van Persie. So no Falcao, but he is on the subs bench.

Re: Juan Mata (Manchester United)
Took him out in my WC for Di Maria as I thought Di Maria was more likely to start over the coming weeks but actually think Mata is more of a goal threat and could score well today. Wouldn't have taken him out if they hadn't signed Falcao.
